A Wi-Fi QR code is a standard format most modern phones understand.
Here is the honest picture — what works, what to watch for.
01
Most phones scan it built-in
iPhones on iOS 11 or newer and Android phones on version 10 or newer can read a Wi-Fi
QR code with the built-in camera app — no separate app needed. Older phones may
need a free QR-scanner app, and a few older or locked-down devices may not support
Wi-Fi QR connect at all.
02
Your password stays in your browser
This tool is fully client-side. Your network name and password are used only to build
the QR image on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is stored —
reload the page and it is gone.
03
The password is inside the QR
Anyone who scans the code can join the network, because the password is embedded in it.
That is the point — but it means you should print it for guests on-site, not post
the image publicly online where anyone could scan it.
04
Best on a separate guest network
If your router supports a guest network, use it for the QR. That keeps guest traffic
off your main network and your point-of-sale or back-office devices. Change the guest
password and reprint any time — it takes seconds here.
